Fillers are similar to Botox Cosmetic® in that they can diminish or completely eliminate lines for months.

Fillers are substances that are injected beneath the skin to "fill" creases and deep furrows instead of just relaxing the underlying facial muscles.

Areas most commonly treated include: the furrows which run from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth, deep smile lines, frown lines and crow's feet. They can also be used to plump up lips or smooth out uneven lip lines. They are especially effective in enhancing and defining cheeks and jaw lines and restoring the face's original youthful curves.

Juvéderm™, Teosyal® and Restylane® ; the most commonly used fillers, are made of hyaluronan, a natural compound in the human body which helps keep skin plump and elastic.

Aging causes a decrease in hyaluronic acid, which results in increased lines. When fillers are injected, they temporarily replace the body's lost hyaluronic acid to create the volume needed to fill out the problem areas. The positive results achieved by these fillers can last from 6 - 12 months.

Treatments are generally well tolerated. Possible side effects are generally mild and usually last no longer than a week. These may include: redness, tenderness, and bruising, which can be easily camouflaged by make-up. Some patients may require a short downtime but most resume their normal activities immediately.
